Colton Dixon - Love Has Come For Me - American Idol 12 (Results) (by IdolxMuzic)

An interesting life lesson!

What an interesting little experiment this voice (or lack of) issue has turned out to be. After just a few hours of using an alternate form of communication (a marker board instead of voice), I’ve seen that people will treat you differently.  Most notably, people spoke to me louder… I’m not deaf, I just can’t talk. Or they just overlook you, not necessarily intentionally, although I think a couple times it was just because they didn’t want to take the time to read my writing. I’ve also gotten some insight into how folks with different communication needs might feel when trying to get a point across.  We’re so dependent on spoken communication that people totally miss things when using another form, even if it is still plain English words.  I had several people who seemed very impatient at how long it took me to write out things instead of just say them, and I found myself still trying to talk when I shouldn’t be, just for that convenience.  My bad handwriting didn’t help much with that either.  Anyhow, I guess if I am going to be inconvenienced by my vocal cords, I might as well make it a learning experience, right?
